Things I’ve done to make my phone less distracting
by aridoneyet · 11 things on NewTwos
- ✓ Downloaded the Jomo app and blocked all social media apps (I’ve already deleted them but this is an extra layer)
- Downloaded a safari extension called SocialFocus that allows me to really limit how I do interact with social media in the browser.
- For YouTube, it allows me to block shorts, comments, recommended videos while in a video and even the feed if you want it
- For IG, I’ve blocked sponsored and suggested content
- I’ve put my phone in grayscale 24/7 to reduce dopamine. I only turn this off when editing photos.
- Using an app called Minimalist Launcher that turns my phone into an app list and picked a handful I use often
- I really wish there was a way to hide the App Library on iOS. But the grayscale helps reduce the distraction.
- Turned off notifications from 99% of apps. I leave phone, messages, twos, calendar on for notifications.
- Have 1-2 focus modes. I want to customize these more but I am really utilizing the “reduce interruptions” smart focus mode in iOS 18.
- I don’t keep work apps on my phone like Slack unless I am specifically away from desk for more than 4-5 hours. This isn’t a work phone.
- I bought and am using the Brick device + app. It’s a physical device that you have to scan with your phone to start/stop. Once you start it, you can’t access any apps you’ve blocked for yourself. Pretty cool. I can take notes in bed if needed for end of day to get my thoughts out, but am not scrolling or doing anything detrimental. Looking forward to using it for days out with the family and during deep work.
