How to pressure wash your driveway

- Make sure you have the appropriate equipment for the job. Depending on the size of the surface you will need different equipment. For a sizeable driveway a gas pressure washer is recommended for times sake. But if you’re just doing your back patio an electric washer will do just fine. For a driveway a gas washer between 3-4 gallons per minute or GPM is recommended
- There’s two ways you can approach the cleaning nozzle wise. There are your standard tips that are better for small surfaces or detail work (they are also very satisfying) they include a red (or degree) yellow (15 degree) green (25 degree) and the white nozzle (40 degree) and then there are surface cleaners. Basically large disk on wheels that has a rotating bar underneath with a tip on each end. Which makes for a much quicker cleaning experience. A good rule of thumb is 1 GPM for every four inches of surface cleaner so if you have a 20” surface cleaner (the industry standard) you need 4gpm to run it efficiently.
- Step two: Procedure
- Start with cleaning off any debris (leaves, sticks etc.) and then screw on the water hose into your pressure washer and proceed to clean. A good approach is to do the edges with a 25 degree nozzle. It is the green tip. Do the edge work around the main surface. Then proceed to follow with the surface cleaner, go in rows down your driveway. If you start to see lines behind what you’ve cleaned then you are moving too fast and the bar hasn’t had time to properly clean everything so take your time. After you’ve done everything there will be a lot of loose dirt and sand on your concrete so you will take the white nozzle also known as a 40 degree and wash everything off. The 40 has a large fan spread to wash away loose debris. Wait for your surface to dry and admire the results!
