First Thoughts on Using Twos

- My first day using Twos. Here are some thoughts:
- Testing 123. Sweet, Scribble works so l can write out my thoughts! It's still a bit poopy, just because Scribble is still a bit poopy. Excited that Scribble works at all because being able to handwrite means Twos is a fully-fledged, simple and quick to use Bullet Journal replacement. It's exactly what I've been search for since I got an iPad! Squeee!
- I set a reminder to review this list tomorrow. Not sure how that’s going to work to alert/remind me to review. While I really like having a review feature, currently it doesn't seem intuitive to use. Wish there was a video or walkthrough on that part. Is it going to give me a notification to remind me that I wanted to review something? Or even just a little notification pop up? Something?
- I like how easy it is to 'quick capture' in this app! So much faster than even Apple Notes, which was the quickest I'd used previously.
- I do wish the Apple widget was a little more robust for that aspect though. I only have an SE, so maybe that's why but I did expect the widget options to be more useful than just a quick-open to the today list. It doesn't seem to save any time versus just clicking the app icon. It'd be neat if there were multiple widget options, like you could easily open a frequently used list, or see the first few things on your homepage, or even have a quick open to the 'recent lists' listing.
- Maybe I should play around in Shortcuts. I bet I could find some way to make the app more useful with a Shortcut.
- Huh, so spacebar indents but how do you un-indent while typing?
- Backspace, if you’ve got a real keyboard, or got the cursor in the right place on mobile. But that was not at all intuitive to figure out.
- I can’t decide if I like the gamification aspect to this app or not. It’s kinda fun but also a little annoying. I like that they don’t charge a subscription though. I like that a lot. And I love that they're keeping the price for all the features low at $12!
- According to a video I watched they only have the coins for mobile, everything is accessible from the get-go when using the web or desktop apps. So that’s nice.
- Although if you try to use the web app while logged in on mobile or iPad it auto pops you back into the mobile app. So that’s not so nice, but I guess it makes sense.
- I like the web app experience on Windows at work. It's nice to have my personal calendar and to-dos easily available next to my work calendar and tasks list.
- I love so much that you can use different signifiers like dashes, bullets, stars, numbers, and checkboxes/circles to denote different things for your things.
- I do wish there was a way to do formatting inside an individual "thing", like being able to italicize words/phrases. I guess this would be Rich Text or Markdown? It seems like that wouldn’t bloat the simplicity too much while adding some useful functionality, but I know nothing about that really.
- I like the ability to make new lists on the fly from sublists or things you've noted throughout the day. That makes organizing easy-breezy and pain point free.
- Although! My indents were out of order when I moved this section from my day into its own list. What’s up with that? And then when I hit the collapse all button, the indents were all out of order again! Is this a bug?
- Can you use emojis? 🧞♀️🧚♂️🧌🦄 woot! (haha Windows or the non-Apple emoji library Twos is using doesn't have a troll emoji. Weak! Trolls represent!)
- Wish I could use Apple Stickers here too, but I can’t ever figure out how to access them outside of Freeform and Messages.
- It’s pretty easy to insert photos too. Here’s the chicken “hat” I wore at work yesterday.
- Watching a webinar on YT from a month ago and Joe mentions he's got his day set up to collapse all his completed to-dos to the bottom of the day list. Beautiful, but I can't find that setting, I only see the ability to collapse to the TOP of the day list. I don't want what I've done at the top, I've already done it, it’s clutter now! Get thee to the bottom! Is this a setting that has changed in less than a month's time? So weird. What's up here Joe?
- Okay, turns out this feature is just badly named, thus the confusion. I played around with turning it on and off, and it popped everything completed to the bottom and hid it all. Since it didn't say anything about the bottom, I assumed it was going to collapse them but leave them at the top. Maybe take the "top" out?
- All the font choices are cool, but:
- Chalkduster and Comic Sans are left-over April Fool's jokes, yeah? I’m such a font snob, I would NEVER.
- Wish it had the OpenDyslexic font choice as an option. This is a great and useful font for people who have dyslexia (duh, but it really is helpful).
- Let’s see what tags look like. Oh that’s not what I expected. Not sure I like it on top of the thing. 🤷♀️, I don’t usually use tags all that much anyway.
- Update: July 17th 2024, I think I like it even less on the side. There is a setting to change that so it's back on top though. Gonna go find that now...
- Let’s play with hyperlinks, since I just earned enough coins to get the ability. Here’s the Twos webinar I mentioned above -
- Huh, again, it works slightly differently from how I expected. I expected a full preview link, not a weird small banner link. Oh well, it’s fine, in all the other ways it works like you’d expect a hyperlink to work.
- Wow do I love the week view. It's a perfect fit for how my brain works. Love that there's no text limits, no page limits. I can just write and write and write. This is absolutely the best app I've ever used for my weird brain. I still can't believe it is free.
