- Over thinking
- Everyone thinks things through when making a decision or evaluating a situation, but it becomes overthinking when you can't get out of your own head.
- If you can't get out of your own head, you're not taking any action.
- Seeking validation.
- If you are looking to others to approve your ideas, that means you have no confidence in yourself.
- The people you are seeking validation from may see this as a weakness and use it to manipulate you.
- Blaming others.
- Blaming others is the opposite of taking personal responsibility.
- Those in control of their own lives always take personal responsibility.
- Doubting yourself.
- If you don't believe in yourself you're unlikely to take any risks essential for your growth.
- Doubting yourself will also will invite others to feed that doubt and keep you average.
- Trying to please everyone.
- "A friend of everyone is a friend of no-one"
- Everyone is different, pleasing everyone can't be done.
- Trying to please all will make you act fake.
- No one will trust you.
- Just be yourself.
- Overreacting.
- We overreact when we lose control of our emotions.
- If you put this emotion on display, some people will try and get a reaction out of you on purpose to show you up.
- Take a moment to think before you react.
- Relying on motivation.
- Motivation is great to get you started, but it's near impossible to maintain.
- Motivation is best used to build life changing habits.
- Once it's a habit you won't need motivation.
- Waiting for motivation is just procrastination.
- One-upping people.
- One-uppers are braggarts that are afraid of being perceived as small, weak, or insignificant.
- If you've been to Tenerife, a one-upper will tell you they've been to Elevenerife.
- They do it out of insecurity, and this only exposes that insecurity.
- Worrying about what you can't control.
- This will drain you of the mental strength you need to be productive by concentrating on what you can control.
- For example, some people refuse to even try and get better because they're too worried about the state of the economy.
- Feeding your ego
- An inflated ego is also a big reason for overreacting and one upping.
- It's frustrating to think so highly of yourself and be treated with contempt by others, this is why it then becomes so easy to show yourself up.
