How reminders, events, and calendars work in Twos
by Twos · 59 things on NewTwos
- Intro
- Twos is a simple, all-in-one system to write, remember, and share *things*
- The system is made up of days, lists, and *things*
- Everything you write down in Twos starts as a *thing* which can be a note, task, reminder, event, etc.
- These *things* are organized in a list or on a day
- A list is a collection of *things*
- A day is a new list to write *things* down every day
- What are reminders?
- A reminder is date/notification attached to a *thing*
- A *thing* with a reminder will appear on the day the reminder is set for.
- Reminders will send you a notification at the time of the reminder unless it is an all-day reminder
- You can edit a reminder by clicking on the reminder
- You can set a new reminder for the same *thing* by selecting the *thing* and setting a new reminder
- You can set an alert ahead of the reminder by editing the reminder and specifying an alert time
- You can create recurring reminders each day, week, month, year, or custom for every couple of weeks or a specific day in a month or year
- Reminders can be set automatically with auto-date detection I.e. “Call John in two weeks” or “Take out the trash at 5 pm”
- What are events?
- Events are a reminder with a start date and end date
- Events will appear on all of the days of the event
- How does calendar integration work?
- All calendar integration occurs through the Twos mobile app
- You can add calendars in side menu -> settings -> calendars
- If you can’t find a calendar you’d like to connect, watch this video
- Events from your calendar will be added as *things* with reminders/events
- We initially sync one month in the past and in the future. Every time you open the app, we sync one week in the past and in the future. If you navigate around the app, it should sync the calendar events for that day/week/month.
- If a calendar event has link, the *thing* will have a hyperlink to open a Google Meet or Zoom link
- You can push reminders from Twos to your calendar by selecting a calendar while creating or editing a reminder
- You can set a default calendar to add all reminders to automatically in Twos mobile app -> side menu -> settings -> calendars -> default calendar
- WARNING: if you connect the same calendar from multiple mobile devices (I.e. iPhone, iPad, Android phone), you will have duplicate calendar events. Please connect each calendar only once on the mobile device you use most often
- What is the grey events section at the top of my day?
- Calendar events are automatically added to a grey, events section at the top of your day
- People with busy calendars would have a wall of *things* to look at if they went straight on your day, so we put them in this section to provide a clean/fresh place to write *things* down every day
- The events section shows all all-day reminders/events and the next 2 upcoming reminders/events
- If you want to see all of your calendar events by default, you can turn on side menu -> settings -> preferences -> appearance -> Show all events by default
- To move a reminder/event in and out of the events section, you can click on the reminder and in the edit reminder modal, turn on/off “show in events”
- Why can’t I reorder a *thing* with a reminder at the top of my day?
- If a reminder was written on another day or list, these reminders appear at the top of the day they are set for
- The order of these reminder is based on the time they are scheduled for
- You can’t reorder them because it would change the order of the original day or list it was written on, which you may not want
- If you’d like to be able to reorder it, you can select -> move that *thing* to today. It will appear at the bottom of your day and can be reordered from there
- What should I do if I see duplicate calendar events?
- There are a few things that could be happening:
- Did you connect the same calendar on multiple mobile devices?
- We apologize for the inconvenience, but currently you can only connect each calendar on one device
- We may have a bug in the sync code
- Please let us know and we will look into it. So sorry about that
- If neither of those solutions work, you can try re-syncing the calendar with duplicate events in side menu -> settings -> calendars, or you can try removing all calendar events and syncing again
- Why does it take so long to connect/re-sync my calendar?
- We added a delay when syncing or connecting your calendar to prevent bugs from connecting/disconnecting your calendar too quickly. You should not have to do this very often, if ever, so please let us know if you’re having issues
- When/how does the calendar sync?
- The calendar syncs every time your open the mobile app
- The syncing occurs with the mobile calendar app (Apple Calendar on iOS and Google Calendar on Android) so if you don’t see an event you’re looking for, double-check to make sure you see the event in those apps. The issue could be that they haven't updated yet
- Why do my calendar events show up as to-dos?
- The most likely cause is your default *thing* type is a to-do
- If your default *thing* type is to-do, but you don’t want your calendar events to be to-dos, you can turn off “Allow calendar events to be to-dos” in the mobile app -> side menu -> settings -> preferences -> default *thing* type
- Why don't I receive a reminder on my phone if I set them from my computer?
- If you set a reminder on your computer and you don't receive a notification on your phone, it may be that you haven't opened your phone first.
- You need to open Twos on your phone in order for notifications and reminders to get scheduled.
- We will improve this in the future to have this happen in the background.
