Twos — the To Do List App to Rule Them All (Nicola Fisher, Medium)
by Joe · 30 things on NewTwos
- According to the app, I started using Twos on 23/02/2022. In a good way, it seems longer than that. For a few months, as my circumstances changed, I used Twos a little less. But, now, as life has returned to a full-on pace, Twos is keeping me on track again.
- Is it a to do list app? Is it for reminders? Or for jotting things down? It’s all of these and more.
- iOS, Android and Chrome
- I’ve used many to do list apps over the years but if there isn’t a web interface, the love affair has been short lived.
- Twos offers iOS and Android apps, as well as a Chrome extension. It gives me that any time, any place, anywhere access.
- To Do List
- I run my life on lists. Not just one list but several. Twos does lists in abundance.
- I have a small number of top level lists — Personal, Home, Work, Projects — and then related sublists underneath. These enable me to categorise and group tasks, and give me focus.
- Lists can be private or public/shared. I like this — it means I can create content that I want to publish in a variety of contexts yet keep other stuff for my eyes only.
- Make It Your Own
- Twos is hugely customisable. I love reading about how others use Twos. We’re all so different!
- The key view for me is Today. This is where I start my day. Yesterday’s incomplete tasks roll over so no worries about forgetting anything.
- Dated tasks show up automatically on the right day. Add a date to a task and then forget about it until Twos reminds you.
- In Today, I can also see the day’s Google Calendar events, which is handy. You can make events into to do items but, in the interests of consistency (and perhaps slight OCD), I prefer not to do that.
- Twos has a two way integration with your Calendar. As well as pulling your events into the Today view, Twos also allows you to link a task to a Calendar. What’s really cool is that when you check off a task with a Calendar link you’re prompted to remove it from the Calendar too. Very neat and tidy!
- The Week view — like a kanban board — means I can scroll through my days and quickly see what’s coming up.
- I’ve customised my setup to show Today, Week, Calendar, Lists and Tags. I’ve hidden Home, Stars, To Dos, Reminders, On This Day and My Twosers as I access these options less often.
- Tag Agendas
- I use tags to create agendas and to remind me what I need to discuss with others, do today and what is urgent.
- Twos aggregates all the tagged tasks. It’s very GTD. This is part of yesterday’s list which I checked off as I ran a few different errands.
- Write Things Down
- Twos is unique as a to do list app. It’s much more than just creating tasks and ticking them off. It’s part notetaking app too.
- Each entry can be styled and formatted — choose a tick box for tasks, choose no dash for text entries, or a numbered list if you need that.
- I like daily logs and jotting down brief observations. Twos lends itself to this. I have a Daily Log list that I add to each day. Twos dates and time stamps my entries.
- To keep me on track with my NotePD lists, I create a full week’s worth of empty entries so that I can add to them as inspiration strikes, and never miss posting my list.
- Give It A Go!
