How Meditation Changed My Life

- We live in a world that teaches us that in order to be internally satisfied, we need to rely on external circumstances
- Whether it is reading a good book, getting the job we want, or finding the person we want to spend the rest of our lives with, we rely on things outside of ourselves to make us happy. This idea has been magnified by the increases in technology and the advent of social media
- Social media has created this idea of false happiness and satisfaction. Nobody shares bad experiences and failures. It makes it seem like everyone is happy and satisfied all the time
- Our success is temporary and our happiness is conditional
- External satisfactions are temporary satisfactions and do not create internal satisfaction
- Meditation is an exercise that trains your mind to regulate itself. It's the ability to focus on one thing continuously without break. If practiced properly and diligently, it's a consistent reconnection with your true inner self
- Just like our bodies require physical activity to keep it strong, healthy, and active, our minds are muscles that also require exercise and regulation keep us strong and healthy and active
- Meditation helps you decrease the interval chatter so you can see the external circumstances clearly and see your true inner self with objectivity
- We are afraid of silence and crave "noise"
- In order to create a true connection with your inner self, you need to love silence
- It will increase confidence, replaces the negative with the positive, internal exercise transitions into external exercise, communication, minimize stress and anxiety, living in the present moment, compassion, tolerance, and acceptance, willpower, the capacity to love
- We don't need to rely on external circumstances to make us internally satisfied. True success comes from taking the time to work on yourself internally and cultivate the values that you want to see in yourself internally and be able to hold on to those values and express them in any external circumstance
- Changes won't come when we get older. We will learn to workout and cook when we choose to workout and cook
- Our internal sense of self will not change until we make the choice to change our internal sense of self
- Mediation is hard, but if you can create the willpower to stop your brain from thinking long enough, you can pretty much create the willpower to do just about anything
